Introduction and Overall Outcome

Pinterest is the topic of my project. It was created in 2009 but not launched until 2010. It was invented by Ben Silbermann. The reason I chose Pinterest is because it is something that I use in my daily life. I also wanted to know the impact it has on other people. I found all of the articles I used in my corpus through Google searches and the resources listed on the Pinterest Wikipedia page. I then weeded through several article choosing the ones I thought would be best suited to use within this project. I only found one source that contracts what was said in the others stating that Pinterest actually causes self-esteem problems. Overall I found that most people like Pinterest and think that it is a "handy tool" especially when it comes to blog post.

Analysis of the Corpus

Is Social Media Destroying Your Self-Esteem?- The most use of social media is by women and 82% of Pinterest’s traffic is just that. According to J Maureen Henderson, the writer of this article, women are using Pinterest to depict what they want their life to be, not what it really is. They use different writing sources just as journal entries and magazine clippings to influence the way women perceive themselves. It changes their self-esteem and makes them read and write in different point of views than they would before, and now with the availability to “pin” what they want. Pinning also eliminates the read to write something down they can simply just add it to one of their boards and looks back at it at another time.

The History and Impact of Pinterest (Dissecting Pinterest)-  The impact of Pinterest has not only changed how we view social media but also how we view communications. Pinterest eliminated social media that was purely based on personal information. Pinterest I purely based upon common interests that you can “pin” hence the name Pinterest. Pinterest also eliminated the need for “statuses.” Through Pinterest you can share 1000 words just by pinning one picture.

Pinning Down the Impact of Pinterest- Pinterest is attracting more than just the normal social media crowd. Pinterest is appealing to a more than just those who view social media as a way of communication. Pinterest is attracting people based on personal interest behavior not social networking behavior. This eliminates the words and encourages the pictures.

Impact of Pinterest- One in four people are starting to choose Pinterest over normal social media such as Facebook and Twitter. About 15% of Pinterest users do not use any other form of social media. Research has also shown that people have changed their social networking behavior in one way or another simply do to the fact that they use Pinterest. People are more likely to use Pinterest rather than other social media due to the wide variety of subject offered on Pinterest.

Pinterest’s Impact on Social Media is Worth So Much More Than 1,000 Words- This whole article can be simply summed up by one quote near the end. “Hats off to Pinterest for using the concept of pictures (each being worth 1000 words) to show us the importance of collecting and for sparking a whole new wave of thinking about content and the way we consume, create and share it.” This is exactly how Pinterest is view by several of its users.

Pinterest Everything! Creating a Personal Board For Your Blog #Pinterest- Pinterest can aid you’re the way you blog. It allows one to show more of themselves than words can. Pinterest can allow you to show the different aspects of your life through the pins that you post. IT allows for a small glimpse into your personal life just as other social media does, but Pinterest does it in another way. This article suggest a personal board that includes pinning pictures from your personal life to connect with the readers that view your blog.

The Effects of Social Media on How We Speak and Write- Social media has been impacting the way we speak since Facebook and texting became readily available. Teens have adapted what society call text-speak. The population is shortening words and substituting them for others. With Pinterest this is not faced because text-speak is not needed when using Pinterest. Pinterest in some ways is actually improving communication.

BUZZ IN THE BLOGOSPHERE: MILLIONS MORE BLOGGERS AND BLOG READERS- Bloggers are starting to use Pinterest more and more. It connects a picture/story to the view of their blogs. According to the article “pinterest is a visually-oriented social media site that is also growing rapidly” and more commonly used in blogs now than it was before.

Pinterest Is Sneaking Up on Twitter, Facebook, and Google- Pinterest most of the time is not regarded as a social media sites. As far as use come into play, Pinterest is starting to become more popular than some of the leading social media websites. Unlike most social media sites Pinterest does not have ads.  Pinterest could easily take over Twitter and Facebook if it wanted to. I tends to generate more money than other social media site in general.
